Diamonds - A bike's best friend
Nothing is more frustrating than waiting at a cycleway intersection for a green bike lantern light that never seems to come.
What many bike riders don’t know is that green lights for bike riders are triggered by RTA sensors located beneath the cycleways at intersections.
To trigger the sensors, bike riders need to make sure that they properly position their bikes over the sensors. To make this easier and more intuitive, the City is currently marking up the sensor locations with diamond line-markings.
To make sure your bike is detected (and you get a green light); line up your front wheel with the diamond closest to the stop line.
Any issues with these sensors should be reported to the RTA on 131 700.
